ARNISTON to KNYSNA
This is about a half-day drive inland at first then picking up the coast at Mossel Bay, which has developed as a summer holiday resort and retirement area. Knysna (pronounced Nice-Na) is also a thriving holiday town catering for thousands of tourists. At Knysna we had an excursion to take a boat trip along the Keurbooms River which runs brown due to the high levels of takin leached into the river from the surrounding forest. Our hotel was the Knysna Hollow Country Estate which burned down in a huge coastal forest fire in 2017. In the grounds was a colony of Cormorants, Shags and Herons. We even spotted a Kingfisher.
