AKUREYRI (ICELAND)

Akureyri, nicknamed the Capital of Northern Iceland, is a city and fishing centre with an ice-free harbour at the base of Eyjafjörður Fjord in northern Iceland. In the center, the 1940 Akureyri Church has stained-glass windows portraying scenes from Icelandic Christian history.

We visited the Goðafoss waterfall, one of the most spectacular and largest waterfalls in Iceland. The water from the river Skjálfandafljót falls from a height of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters. We also visited the region of Hverir a geothermal spot noted for its bubbling pools of mud & steaming fumaroles emitting sulphuric gas.
