KUSHIRO
Our first port of call on the Diamond Princess was Kushiro on the island of Hokkaido, famous for its seafood and oysters in particular. It is known for the large Kushiro Marsh, home to deer, sea eagles and Japanese cranes. A circular trail runs through the marsh from the Kushiro Marsh Observatory. On the coast, Fisherman’s Wharf is home to restaurants. We went on a full day tour to see the scenic Aikappu Headland, the Kushiro wetlands where cranes breed and a barbecue seafood lunch.
