CHONGQING
Chongqing is a sprawling municipality at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers in southwestern China. It currently has a population of around 30 Million! In the city centre, the large, domed Great Hall of the People complex stands above pedestrianized People's Square. On the other side of the square, the Three Gorges Museum features artifacts from the construction of the Three Gorges Dam as well as ancient art.
We visited the Zoo with its Giant Pandas. It is also the first time we encountered the cute Red Panda. Then we went on a little boat trip to see how local people hauled boats by hand on the Shennong River. Next we visited a workshop that produces exquisite silk tapestries and finally we visited a geological wonder called the Stone Forest.
