PALAMIDI FORTRESS

Palamidi fortress is a Venetian defensive castle of 17th century, built on a rocky hill at an altitude of 220m, full of ramparts, loopholes and high walls. There are 913 steps to the top from the town of Nafplio. Its internal space includes a church, dedicated to Agios Andreas. Each of its rampants has a different name. The one called 'Miltiades' was used to jail General Theodoros Kolokotronis, the Greek hero of the War of Independence of 1821.
